Valedictory |
This turned up in Leola’s Book of Remembrance. She says she’s completing her last year in the district school; great-granddaughter Bethany (who kindly transcribed it) guesses that that puts her in her late teens. |

Here’s Bethany’s transcription; the rest of the scanned images, together with the associated e-mail history, are in a folder at |

Valedictory |
Ladies and gentlemen, teachers, and fellow graduates.
Here we are, the graduates, finishing our last year in the district school. How proud we are, and how proud I am to give the valedictory. I have enjoyed school every year and also liked my teachers, as I am sure my classmates have. How times have changed! Not very many years ago, the graduates were given diplomas and considered through school, but now we think of it only, as the first step, and there are many more steps to make an education. |
